Currently serving as a Consultant, UX Research & Service Design at a global professional services firm, Joyce has also completed her Master of Information degree at the University of Toronto with a specialization in User Experience Design. Her academic pursuits catalyze her drive to create user-centred solutions that prioritize inclusivity and accessibility. Joyce’s academic journey not only equips her with the necessary skills but also instills in her a deep sense of responsibility to leverage her expertise for the betterment of society.
Beyond her professional endeavours, Joyce is the Co-Founder and Social Media Lead of The UX Lounge. This podcast platform is a beacon of knowledge and inspiration for aspiring UX professionals. Joyce embarked on her transition into the field of UX with a strong desire for mentorship and guidance. “As a woman of colour, navigating the intricacies of the professional world can be daunting,” she reflects. Additionally, she states, “Seeking mentorship during my final year of undergrad was pivotal for me in understanding how to navigate the next steps of my career.”
Joyce’s decision to apply for the AHF Fellowship Circle was driven by a need to connect with peers and gain insights into her desired field, especially amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic. Through the program, Joyce found herself immersed in a supportive community of like-minded individuals, where she gained invaluable mentorship and forged meaningful connections that have since shaped her career trajectory. The experience not only provided her with practical knowledge and skills but also instilled in her a sense of confidence and belonging within the UX industry. Joyce’s journey is a testament to the power of mentorship in empowering Indigenous, Black and racialized professionals and fostering a sense of community and belonging in traditionally underrepresented fields.

Adding, “We wanted to bridge the gap between students and industry leaders, providing insights and mentorship opportunities for aspiring UX professionals.”
